Citrus Simple Syrup

Citrus Simple Syrup

Don’t let those oranges, satsumas, and tangerines go to waste. We all do it. We see a sale on oranges and we buy a sack and they end up going bad before we can eat them all. Well here is a simple way to make the most out of your purchase and not let them go to waste.

Ingredients:

Freshly squeezed juice from citrus

Sugar

Water

Lemon juice

Rind from half a lemon

Instructions:

Squeeze juice from whatever citrus you have.

Measure juice once done and put in sauce pan

Add equal amounts of sugar and water

Add freshly squeezed lemon juice of half a lemon for every 3 cups of total liquid and a shaving of lemon rind.

Bring to a boil and boil for about 3 minutes.

Remove from heat and let cool.

Once cool, strain and put in jars and store in fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Uses:

Cocktails (my favorite)

Marinades for meat or seafood

Flavoring for teas and other drinks

Salad dressings

Pour on ice cream
