It’s blackberry season here in Louisiana and they are plentiful where I live. My little brother, my son and his wife picked some for me to make cobbler.

Wash your berries! I fill my sink up with water and add about 2 TBSP of baking soda. Let dissolve and then pour berries in. Don’t overcrowd the berries you want them to be able to move around freely. Using my hands I swoosh them around in the water. Then I put them in a strainer and rinse well. You can repeat this as many times as you need to make sure they are clean. (You’d be surprised what can be hiding in those berries 😖)
Ingredients:
1 cup AP flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup sugar divided (keep 1/4 cup to the side)
1 stick melted butter
1 cup of milk
2-3 cup fresh blackberries (use the ripest available)
Instructions:
Preheat Oven to 350
In a mixing bowl combine flour, 1 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Whisk until combined.
Add milk and butter and mix until smooth.
Pour in a baking dish and then pour berries on top. They will appear to float on the mixture and that’s ok. That’s what you want.
Now take your left over sugar and dust the top of the berries and mix. This will crystallize and leave you with a little crust and extra sweetness when cooked.

Bake at 350 for an hour.

Now….Enjoy!
