Ingredients:
- 6 Hoagie Buns (I made these but store bought is fine)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup of Italian bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup stale bread (crumbled)
- 1 medium onion (puréed)
- 1 onion finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Red pepper flakes to taste
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 jars of your favorite pasta sauce
- Mozzarella cheese (freshly grated)
- Fresh Basil for garnish
Instructions:
Mix together pork, beef, puréed onion, bread crumbs, stale bread, and Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. Form meatballs by hand or using a small scoop.
Brown meatballs in olive oil. After meatballs are browned removed from skillet and sauté onions until translucent then add garlic and sauté for about 2-3 minutes.
Add meatballs back to the pot and pour pasta sauce over the meatballs and let simmer until meatballs are fully cooked and sauce has thickened.
Line meatballs on rolls and top with sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil. Can put in the oven on broil until cheese is melted before garnishing with basil.
